COOPERATIVISM

United we are stronger. We believe in cooperation as a way of life, a philosophy to be adopted in order to achieve progress. We all need each other, just as we all need the Earth, and Cooproeste's job is to achieve perfect harmony between AGRO and COOPERATION.

Seven Principles of Cooperativism

How to put the values of cooperativism into practice? To guide co-operatives around the world, the seven principles of co-operativism have been established. They have been the same since the first cooperative in history was founded in 1844.

In a cooperative, members contribute equitably to the organization's capital. Part of the amount is, normally, common property of the cooperative and the members receive remuneration limited to the paid-in capital, when any. The surplus of the cooperative can be used for the following purposes: benefits to members, support for other activities approved by the members or for the development of the cooperative itself. Everything has always been decided democratically.

Co-operatives are autonomous, mutually supportive organizations controlled by their members, and nothing should change that. If a cooperative enters into agreements with other organizations, public or private, it must do so in conditions that ensure democratic control by members and their autonomy.

To be a cooperative is to commit to the future of the members, the movement and the communities. Cooperatives promote education and training so that their members and workers can contribute to the development of businesses and, consequently, the places where they are present. In addition, it offers information to the general public, especially young people, about the nature and advantages of cooperativism.

Cooperativism is working together. It is in this way, acting together, that cooperatives give more strength to the movement and serve their members more effectively. Whether united in local, regional, national or even international structures, the goal is always to unite around a common good.

Cooperatives are democratic organizations controlled by all their members, who actively participate in formulating their policies and taking decisions. And the official representatives are elected by the whole group.
